I am just starting my leather journey. I used to work in the custom picture framing industry years ago and enjoyed the combination of design and crafting. I have wanted to start working with my hands again and fell upon leather craft during COVID. I like the idea of being able to start in a small space as I do not have access to a workshop at the moment. After delaying for the past year, I have decided to get going. Mainly because my kids keep calling me out on my procrastination ;) My wife found @atelierpeternitz through a random Google search and then I found @Alex Dorandish and @Julien Danel through IG. Alex was kind enough to return my message and convinced me this was the right set of tutorials. I am in the process of ordering tools and getting a small work area setup. Having some accountability is good for me, so I hope to document my process and use this forum to help with that. Many thanks to all those who have offered help here to us newbies Cheers, Daniel

Hi, I am using my electric creaser to finish ends of zipper tapes as well as iron edge paint, but the melted zipper tape and burnt (oops) edge paint is very hard to clean off of the creaser head. Does anyone have any cleaning tips? Thanks!!

Hi all, im wondering if anyone has any good tips to create a straight edge on a new hide. I’ve seen Few YouTube videos etc but I still seem to be slipping up somewhere. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Is there a standard direction for the zip slider on a bag with a side handle? I think I have put it the wrong way around on this one! How long is too long a thread for saddle stitching? I have been practicing a few things on this bag. Rolled edges, piping (I made it by hand skiving a peak down the middle of a longish strip of leather and folding), attaching zips, just using what I have to hand. The handle is too low but it gets a bit too bulky to where I had intended to put it. To get around piping part of this bag in one go it would have taken 4 meters+ of thread. I tend to not go above 2 meters at a time as it seems so much slower to go bigger that an arms span. Is this just me being a newbie? Does it make sense to do it in 1 go?
