my studio recently went thru a big hoo haa over the new skiving machine from TaKing Taiwan, it was working fine until i decided to upgrade a certain parts.. now my skiver are unable to skive twice on the same leather, for some reason the first skive is fine, second skive will dig a much deeper groove depends on the part where the second skive overlapped.
i will attach some images for reference, if any of the members have solution for that, please do share with me.. this is the third week i’ve been liaising with TK’s founder.. still have yet to find the rootcause.
i’ve replaced all the parts back to original so we can troubleshoot and eliminate possibilities

@Eero Arte @atelierpeternitz yes a 50mm feet! works fine now.. one thing tho, the last part to skive always tear by the knife like those in the attached image.. any idea what causes it?
ok guys! so yes apparently its due to the softness @gx chia i switched to some soft garment type leather during the test because its quite a waste to test on perlinger’s, no problem anymore after switching back to perlinger’s again. but what causes the thing to restore is still a myth to me because it wasnt working in the first place with perlinger’s thus the whole hoohaa.. but the few things to look out is - grinding stone - knife - tension spring, i set to 4-5 counting from the outside to inside
Good to know! When the same thing happened to me I was also using a 50 mm foot. Maybe using the 20-30 mm foot will solve the issue.
yes! always split with a 20-30mm foot!
Splitting leather panels is WAAAY easier with a 20mm or 30mm foot.
hey! sorry, didn’t get a notification... are you using a 50mm foot by any chance?
not just about the feed roller being new/old, but whether the material you are skiving is stuck to the feed roller. it happens more often with softer materials, and if you do not have a vacuum suction for your machine...
i switched a new roller feed too, suspecting feeder damaged but no
could it be because the skived remnants are stuck to the feed roller?
oh! I have no idea whats going on....😮
Exactly the same thing happened to me! Following this topic
