Hi everyone. I'm wondering, if you sell your work, how do you price it? There are so few hand-stitched bag makers I can find online to compare my prices against. On the one hand, I know I don't have the brand caché to benchmark against a heritage company like Hermes. But on the other, my work is 100% saddle stitched and uses top-level luxury materials, so I don't want to benchmark against a lesser-quality brand. And, of course, I want my pricing to be in line with you, my fellow bag-makers, so I'm not accidentally undervaluing everyone's work.
Thoughts?
I would say price what you feel you're bags are worth. There is no right or wrong here and you will find fellow bag makers pricing all over the place.
I would think your pricing could be in line with Hermes' retail pricing...not the wildly inflated market pricing that is commonly seen.
I have the same problem... Also as I'm from Switzerland I need to pay also the custom fees for example....
I’m interested as well to get some feedback on this. Thanks don’t do hand stitch but machine stitch. For my pricing I calculate exact square footage of materials used, multiply that by 1.5 for waste, multiply that sum by the cost of the material. I add hardware cost, a shop/overhead cost of $2 for under 2 sq.ft., or $6 for larger than 2 sq.ft. Then I take my time, multiply by $30 per hour. Add those up, then double it.
