The aim for it would be to be totally animal-product free (obviously) :)

I forgot.. Exist also a vegan product made with apple waste. appleleather.com But... I'm not sure, but I think it's possible that are made with plastic materials too.
There is some really good vegan leather made out of cactus called Desserto, its from Mexico, a lot of known brands are using it, They do ship to the US.
