Hello all, I have an old Hermès decorative set from the 50's made out of metal with the main piece being covered by leather. Obviously, the leather piece is very damaged.
1 - Would its value goes up or down if i change the leather? I will use a hide from a tannery owned by Hermès to respect the item. 2 - I'm thinking of replacing the black calf leather by the famous crocodile Himalaya (used on some of their most expensive bags) What would be the most valuable iteration in the resale market between : 1 - Item with its original black calf leather (damaged, dirty, with glue popping out of it)
2 - Item with a brand new black calf leather (same color as the original one)
3 - Item with a crocodile Himalaya leather (famously known in the Hermès community) The metal parts will be cleaned and polished in any case, again, i'm talking about the resale value, Thank you all !
Thanks for the pic. The leather doesn't look that bad. In general items in their original condition are the most valuable. the moment you start replacing parts the value drops even if the "condition" is better.
