If you are interested in working with leather but don't know where to begin or have any idea what tools are required, then this is the post for you!
Below you will find a list of all the basic tools needed to start luxury leather working. Have any questions? let me know here!
For the round and diamond awl what is width/size of the blade needed?
Is an electric creaser a must have for beginners? I am hesitant as some others have mentioned to spend the money on such an expensive tool starting out. I see that Blanchard has a hand edge creaser that is not electric. Is it okay to start out with something like that instead? https://www.rmleathersupply.com/products/vergez-blanchard-edge-marking-tool?_pos=4&_sid=3c2e568aa&_ss=r
I am quite excited to begin and have almost gathered all necessary tools. My apologies for the many questions.
What size linen thread and color, please?
(Hopefully) this is the last item to be decided: the M3000 or M6000 from either CraftTool (quite a bit less expensive than) RMLeather? I posted this question elsewhere so forgive the duplication.
Gathering all my tools and am so excited to begin my journey to excellence! Can the Regal M3000 ($370) electric edger from RMLeather Supply be used vs the M6000 ($767)? This is just the machine cost; no tips. Thank you in advance!
The difference isn't so big and doesn't really make a huge difference. I think it's more about which feels more comfortable for you to use.
What’s the difference between using a Vergez Blanchard number 4 and the smaller number 3 saddlers’ hammer? Does the extra inch in length and slightly heavier weight make the no.4 more suitable for handbags?
Thank you for the list. You mentioned that vergez blanchard's skiving knives are the best. I had a look at them and they have knives with a strait edge/end and knives with a diagonal edge/end. Or are the diagonal ending knives for left handed people; I am left handed. They have long blades and shorter ones; which one is good for what? big hands? small hands?
Thank you for this very useful list!
🤣🤣🤣 well, fingers crossed 🤞
Hello. I'm Sheila and I'm a newbie too.
For the regad.. I have the same problem. I think I will try with some model I saw on russian website or Aliexpress. Try searching "leather Eletric creaser" on aliexpress or google.
I just payed samples from Meisi directly contacting them on Instagram (Meisi108). I payed 70USD (for switzerland it's always the shipping the main problem) and they sended to me 2 books with samples and a others free samples (I'm still waiting but they sended to me a picture of the package). They are really gentle and disponible. Contact them.
Hello all,
I'm planning to get the membership on my Bday and I want to be prepared and buy this list of basic tools in advance.
I found and bought nearly everything but the REGAD M6000 is a bit too expensive for a newbie like me. Does anyone know of a less expensive electric edger that still does a decent job? Would the REGAD M3000 work too?
Also the meisi website checkout page is in Russian...can someone tell me if they had any problem with their order?
Thank you so much in advance!
What is the name of the reinforcement tape? I had some before, and used it all. Now I can find it. But what you used looked like what I had. Thanks
I’ll add one more tool to this list. A good lighting set so you can properly take a picture of your creations
That’s really pretty!!
Thank you! I have almost all. But I need some basic tools as the clamp to sew and I want the ks blade Pricking Irons as soon I can. 😁 For the moment... my boyfriend for Christmas gave me this beauty after he restored it.
Hi Peter, thanks for making your videos so informative and digestible. Really enjoying them and still making my way through them. May I know what kind of glue do you use for gluing leather together and are there different glues for different leathers or items?
It’s a German company called Röchling. They have all manners of cutting boards in different sizes, thicknesses and density
Where did you find the pricking board in this picture. All the ones I can find are smaller ones? thanks
The best ones are the Blanchard
